FILMING IN PUBLIC?

Filming BMX riders is a pretty cool occupation, but as with any job, it has its fair share of downsides. I can deal with being hit with flying bikes, spending hours in the cold waiting for someone to pull an impossible line, carrying a bag around that feels like a ten ton weight, not being able to ride because I’m filming, it’s all part of it...But what really gets me is when you’re all set up, the rider’s ready to go, and then an unspecified member of authority comes charging up to you asking if you have permission to film, threatens to call the police, wants the camera, I’m sure you’ve all been there and will agree that it sucks. For me, my rights as the owner of a camcorder have always been a bit of a grey area...By filming in the streets am I actually breaking any legitimate law? I was forwarded this very interesting short documentary on this subject that some of you might also find fairly interesting…
